The ETHZ team is based at ETHZ Zurich’s Center for Comparative and International Studies (http://www.cis.ethz.ch) and the Institute for Environmental Decisions (IED; http://www.ied.ethz.ch). The former ascertains a strong foothold in the political science community and the latter facilitates intense collaboration with ETHZ Zurich’s department of environmental sciences and EAWAG (Swiss Federal Institute for Aquatic Sciences). In addition to Prof Bernauer, the team includes one tenured senior scientist (Prof. Vally Koubi), one postdoc (Dr. Michael Bechtel), 8 PhD students, and 2 part-time administrative staff. As a whole, the Center for Comparative and International Studies includes 12 professors and around 120 scientists, of which around 70 are PhD candidates. Prof Bernauer has published 35 articles in peer-reviewed journals (of which 12 already published and 5 accepted and forthcoming are listed by the ISI), 9 books, and many book chapters. Bernauer’s group is particularly strong in using quantitative tools (statistics, GIS, formal models) to study environmental institutions and policies.
